Nest
Swifts use their saliva to build the nest.
Edible bird's nests are among the most expensive animal products consumed
by humans.
Edible bird's nest is neither cooling nor heaty.
It contains Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF).
Bird's nest soup is also known as the "Caviar of the East". It
is an expensive delicacy in Chinese cuisine.
Just like seafood, milk, peanut or soy; bird's nest is known to cause
allergy in some people, especially young children. For first time user, take a
small sip and wait for 24 hours.
It helps cleanse lungs and regulate the respiratory system. The healthy
lungs help to prevent internal dryness and thus maintain the youthfulness of
the skin.
Bird's nest soup is best taken on empty stomach (early morning or late in
the night).
When soaking the pre-cleaned edible bird's nest, try to wash it in the
minimum number of times and keep the clean soaking water for cooking later;
don't waste as it contains nutrients.
Bird's nest has natural shape, practically none bird's nests have same
shape.
When soaking, the good bird's nest will leave the soaking water
transparent, clear and colorless.
Dried/low-moisture bird's nests do not need refrigeration, keep it ventilated
occasionally and at the room temperature but avoid direct sunlight.
Some bird's nests have a crunchier texture, low water retention ability.
When preparing, we need to soak it and cook it longer.
Bird's nests are graded and sorted by their shapes however they have same
nutritional values and quality.
Both cave bird's nest and house bird's nest are built by the same type of
bird and they are constructed with the same natural source. In term of quality
many will prefer house bird's nest as it is superb.
All edible bird's nests are same in color naturally, it is
white/yellowish. What makes the color different would be the
environment/surface where the bird's nest attached to. The agents that change
color of the edible bird's nest to the extreme (red or other dark colors) are
normally considered as pollutants.
